The kick-off meeting of the Action Plan of the “Biodiversity and Protected Areas” component of the “Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Armenia” program took place
On July 12, 2024, the consulting contract for the Biodiversity and Protected Areas component of the “Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Armenia” program was officially signed, and today the launch meeting of the action plan of the “Biodiversity and Protected Areas” component of the “Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Armenia” program took place. .
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment Mr. Aram Meymaryan, Head of the Eco-Patrol Service of the Ministry of Environmenr Mr. Vladimir Kirakosyan, Director of “Hayantar” SNCO Mr. Sevak Markosyan, Director of the Armenian branch of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Armenia) Mr. Levon Aghasyan, heads and representatives of professional departments and subordinate structures of the Ministry of Environment. From the RA Environmental Protection and Subsoil Inspection Authority, the German Bank for Reconstruction Loans (KfW), international and non-governmental organizations.
Deputy Minister Mr. Aram Meymaryan made a speech of welcome, who in his speech once again highlighted the issue of biodiversity conservation and restoration.
The deputy minister referred to the actions defined by the given component of the program, namely:
✅ development of management plans for specially protected nature areas,
✅ presentation of the proposal for the creation of new SPAs,
✅Increasing the efficiency of the management system of SPAs,
✅Increasing the business income of the NOCs that manage the SPAs,
✅ Promotion of ecotourism,
✅ improving the socio-economic condition of the neighbouring communities,
✅ recording of fauna and flora

✅ Implementation of monitoring system, etc.
Mr. Aram Meimaryan expressed hope that the program implemented with the support and assistance of the German Government will help solve a number of environmental problems.
